German president Horst Köhler tells the truth and gets fired.

The actual headline in the Guardian is
"German president Horst Köhler quits over Afghanistan gaffe" wherein he said that Germany could no longer support military missions that..."protect our interests, for example, free trade routes, or to prevent regional instability, which might certainly have a negative effect on our trade, jobs and income".

One more politician who tells it like it is and is shown the door.

Rumors

It's been a busy few weeks.

Israel is supposedly threatening to park a submarine off the coast of Iran, a submarine (German-made - how's THAT for irony?) capable of launching covert intelligence missions or lofting a nuclear-tipped cruise missile into downtown Tehran.

Now, Israel will never confirm or deny it has a nuclear arsenal, an assertion that raises knowing grins and winks. Iran, for its part, is saying that any naughtiness in its front yard will be dealt with forcefully. Stay tuned. Things will get nuts.

Meanwhile, six ships were sent out in an attempt to run the Israeli-imposed blockade of the Gaza Strip. These ships were attacked by the Israeli Navy, and there are reports that ten people died. The Israelis deplore the loss of life, but insist that the dead brought it on themselves.

China didn't condemn North Korea for its actions in sinking a South Korean warship, but that's not too surprising. Not because China likes what North Korea's doing - China's trying to portray itself as a responsible superpower, but the DPRK keeps acting like a child in the throes of the Terrible Twos.

Embarrassing.

If Beijing condemns the DPRK, there's the possibility that it could tip Little Kim over the edge. And Pyongyang is already making a lot of warlike noises - discontinuing joint efforts, abrogating the agreement designed to limit maritime clashes and so on. It decreed that the 1953 Armistice was void last year or so, so keep your eyes on that.

Which leads me to Afghanistan.

The Graveyard of Empires has many groups of troublemakers causing grief for the US and NATO troops who are trying to help the country by dropping bombs on it and then flooding it with money and goodies. We've been bombing Taliban and al Qaeda strongholds and camps in Cambodia - er, Pakistan - and now the head general and chief poobah over there, General McChrystal, is saying that the Taliban are training in Iran.

Okay.

This makes about as much sense as an earlier assertion made by the United States that the Shiite Iranians were training and supplying the Sunni Iraqis who were bombing the bejesus out of us. I didn't buy it then, and I ain't buying it now, Fancy Pants.

So there you have it. Three very warm spots, all poised to get a lot warmer.

I know who I'd like to direct this to but after seeing a Philly man indicted for expressing his opinion to a Senator in the land of the free with the blessing of the Constitution, I'll leave the name to be filled in by those of you who share these thoughts.
But I wouldn't rule out certain media news readers, their owner(s), pundits, politicians, CEOs, lobbyists, advertisers, or the rest of the scum of this soon to be soiled earth.
Feel free to pass this on to those you have strong feelings for.

You are an idiot.
A moron of the highest order. You're so stupid it's a wonder you can remember to breathe. Intelligent ideas bounce off your head as if it were coated with Teflon. Creative thoughts take alternate transportation in order to avoid even being in the same state as you. If you had an original thought it would die of loneliness before the hour was out.
On an intelligence scale of 1 to 10 (10 corresponding to the highest attainable IQ) you're rating is so far into negative numbers that one would need to travel into another quantum reality in order to even catch a distant glimpse of it. Your personality is that of a rabid Chihuahua intent on destroying its own tail. Your powers of observation are like that of the bird who keeps slamming into the picture window trying to get that other bird it keeps seeing. True, these are rudimentary skills that many of us "normal" people take for granted that everyone has an easy time of mastering. It just wouldn't have been "right". Sort of like parking in a handicap space. I wish you the best of luck in the emotional, and social struggles that seem to be placing such a demand on you.

The shock will come hardest to those who think things are on their way to recovery. Buoyed by the media’s incessant, intentional ignorance of the situation, when nightfall happens, they’ll be the first to cry foul.

Whether a conspiracy theory or not, I have trouble believing conditions “just happened.”
Select laws overturned, others created at the last minute, a questionable election, a non-fight over that election, 911, disdain for the Constitution, a remarkably ready Patriot Act, hurry to an illegal, unnecessary war with grandstanding by the media, special energy agreements, swift-boating of an opposing candidate, special executive signing statements unchallenged by Congress, FISA complicit Congress, Habeas Corpus ignored, due process obviated, divisiveness among Americans brought on by class hatred, government hatred fomented by one media, Fox in particular, continuing ignorance by the main stream media, suppression of rights, convenient amnesia about financial matters, increased dissension over minorities, willful hate rhetoric from the Right Wing, the religious sector and militia groups, blatant financial irresponsibility allowing the recession, corruption in the government, the Fed, banking and financial sectors, reduced assistance for the common American, huge bailouts for overt corruption, a duplicitous new administration with corrupt advisors, criminal acts by wealthy and powerful excused and accepted, harsh new laws enacted pertaining to the public, corporate greed excused. I’m sure there’s more.
This didn’t happen by amazing chance. It was orchestrated. Call it whatever you like; NWO, New American Century, Illuminati, Bilderbergers, Religion, ad nauseam.
That this wasn’t restricted to America makes it even easier to accept. All of a sudden there are hate crimes all over the world, increased gay bashing that didn’t exist before, the Fox network inciting violence and hatred toward immigrants, America First, teaparty fools suckered into supporting the very organizations they once railed against, murders of investigative reporters in Russia, accentuated hatred by Iran, north Korea, The African Bloc, attempts to start revolutions in other countries, and more.
Some group is behind all of this. Some group laid the groundwork for a global insurrection while those in power reaped the rewards. This could not have happened by chance. Conditions were created for it. Probably starting in the 1970s by those who rose to power in the 80s and in 2001.
In 1998 the Bilderberg Group (the main group that makes the World’s Rules) reportedly decided that the next 50 years should be filled with troubles, dissension, revolution, mayhem, religious and ethnic persecution. The story was because the world as it was and is could not support the growing population. Better to let them kill each other off and then start anew with handpicked descendents of this era.
We have yet to see the worst. It’s coming. Make no mistake. Even if things were to somehow start to look better, contingencies will come into play to make sure prosperity dies.
DW has been right on portending the coming doom. Some of us realized this even before reading the Wraith’s prophecies. But we were laughed at and called conspiracy theorist, fools, idiots.
Am I wrong? Nothing legislative has had any serious, long-lasting meaning for the American public since…when? Nearly every law passed the last 10 years has in some way added to the power of corporations, to their financial strength while diminishing that of the public. Nearly every law passed by Congress involving the public has been a left-handed compliment. And any that appeared decent were filled with loopholes to obliterate their strength and fell by the wayside. The few in Congress who championed them capitulated to the corrupt majority.
Money we don’t have is funneled into corrupt corporations here and for the “wars.” Money, concern and laws for the American Public is questioned, debated then defeated. Money for corporation and the military is quickly acted on and approved.
Important issues are downplayed and rationalized away; health care, outsourced jobs, American jobs, Rights, all in favor of corporate America. And you don’t believe we’re on the Eve of Destruction!
Set your alarm clocks for the second half of the 21st Century. If your children or grandchildren survive, they’ll experience what the fascists, the corrupt capitalists, the Neo ConservaLibs, the incorrigible Religists will call a New World, run by a consortium of Corporations and Theists.
In a few short years, capitalism has done what dictators and kings and other tyrants couldn’t; they defeated America – but only with the help of Americans.

Who's driving?

I’m tired. I’m tired of working for men and women whose only concern is for those who can line their pockets with more cash; for men and women who only care about themselves and the corporations who support them. I’m tired of politicians who say one thing however couched, then tell me to hang in there, that it takes time to do what they promised. I’m tired of people in this country bitching about nothing being done while they can’t get involved because they don’t have time or it won’t make a difference or no one else does it. I’m tired of a president who alludes to one thing but does another…if he does anything at all...for us. I’m tired of a president who puts the welfare of corporations ahead of the people while trying to rationalize that what he’s doing will be for the betterment of the people…in the long run. And I’m especially tired of a president who allows others to lead in his place. I didn’t vote for Rahm, or Reid or AIG or Goldman Sachs or McChrystal or McConnell or Baucus or Nelson or dozens of others.
Things changed in 1994 with the Republicans gaining both houses. Even though the House and Senate were previously controlled by Democrats, it was bad enough living through Reagan/Bush with their lies and deceit.
It was worse with Bush the First and his public mediocrity while kissing corporate America to staunch up what Reagan started. And the Democrats in Congress were starting to show their pastel colors.
It was a little better with Clinton even though he was more centrist than progressive. But Clinton smiled while preparing behind the scenes for the coming deception of the 21st Century.


Bush the Second was just what corporate America wanted and got. He set the table for his successor to finally remake America the way Big Business wanted. I supported that successor because I thought Hillary would have installed the same tired regime her husband appointed. I believed that Obama would be different. Yeah, I knew he wasn’t a true progressive but he came across as more than a centrist in his rhetoric. That is until he was elected.
I couldn’t have supported McCain because of the brain dead and unimaginably incompetent Sarah Palin. Was Sarah chosen by business to make sure Obama was elected? Did they know something we all didn’t? It seems so, now.

The foreseeable future has been set for corporate America. The future’s been dashed for the public, especially the poor.
Obama’s championing the middle class was a nighttime fairy tale for America’s bedtime. Something to make us think tomorrow would be, if not sunny and bright, at least not rainy and snowy. But it really was a bedtime story and most of us went to sleep convinced the days ahead would be better.
Sadly, we had to awaken to a different reality. “These things take time,” “You must be patient,” we were told. You’ll be taken care of. But first, we have to make sure those who have will always have over those who have not. It’s more difficult than he thought so just be patient. No, I can’t any longer, and won’t.
Obama had no problem immediately taking care of and rewarding those who caused the problem. He absolved those from the Bush Administration who started the problem and shredded the Constitution. He ignores those who would correct the problem. And he keeps those who were part of the problem.
It’s only a year and a half into his presidency but he’s shown nothing to convince me he’s any different from Bush or Clinton or Reagan.
The Obama apologists I know, are, for the most part, reasonably well off, in little danger of losing their jobs, homes or retirement. They can bleat about “giving him time.” Most of America can’t.

In 2012, the Democrats or what used to be the Democratic Party will choose a candidate to run for the presidency. Of course they will fall in line behind another in the 30 year line of incompetency simply because faux Democrat Obama is already the president.

I’m tired. But I’m not ready to quit. Fool me once…not like Bush said. But I WAS fooled once. Never again.
No matter what happens during the next two years, if inflation doesn’t come about, if troops are pulled from the war zone, if Cheney and his cronies are prosecuted, if a dozen other things happen that should have, even then Barack Obama will not have my support. I will cast my choice for any other Democratic Candidate.

And no, I couldn’t support any current Republican or Libertarian for the office.
Those who apologize for Obama say that if we don’t vote for him, it’ll be nothing short of installing a Republican in the White House. Maybe they could explain the differences between the current leadership of each party. If Obama and business want a plutocracy, fine, let them have it and be done. I have 20 or maybe 30 years left provided social security isn’t destroyed by this faux Democratic President. And if it is, then why should I worry? I won’t be here. But I feel badly for most of you because you will suffer worse than I ever did; maybe worse than my parents who lived through the Great Depression did.

Will it be your fault because you sat back and allowed this to happen? Will it be your fault because you were told fairy tales and lulled to sleep with bedtime stories we’ve all heard but this time for some reason you wanted to believe? Will it be your fault because you don’t want to sacrifice that SUV or LCD TV or weekends off or any of a thousand other of life’s conveniences you’ve come to think are your Country given right? Yeah. It’s like that!

You have one last choice. No, not this election. Some Democratic seats should change. Blue Dog Democrats should be ousted. Even if the Democrats maintain control, the majority of the fools making these partisan decisions will stay.
The one that counts is 2012. Unless true progressives in Congress and a true progressive president is elected and chooses to lead, there is little to no hope for the America we thought we knew growing up.

AIG, Goldman Sachs, GM, etc. may be too big to fail. But America is not.

The statue "Mustang" provokes strong feelings from travelers at Denver International Airport.

Many hate the statue dubbed "Bluecifer" for its menacing stare -- but city regulations require public art installations to stay put for at least five years.

But now "Mustang" is showing cracks on its legs. The cracks have been repaired with caulk and paint.

City officials said the cracks aren't unexpected because the statue is outside.

City officials said there are no underlying structural problem with the statue by Luis Jimenez, who was killed in 2006 when "Mustang" fell on him.

"Deepwater Horizon survivors allege they were kept in seclusion after rig explosion, coerced into signing legal waivers"

"According to two surviving crew members of the Deepwater Horizon, oil workers from the rig were held in seclusion on the open water for up to two days after the April 20 explosion, while attorneys attempted to convince them to sign legal documents stating that they were unharmed by the incident. The men claim that they were forbidden from having any contact with concerned loved ones during that time, and were told they would not be able to go home until they signed the documents they were presented with."

A $64.00 question.

It used to be we thought war was the means to the end of civilization, of us humans. We thought the “bomb” was the device to deliver us to oblivion. That was in the 50s and early 60s.

Rachel Carson posed the pesticide end in the early 60s.

We worried about using the bomb again in Vietnam, namely from early Republican fear-mongers like Goldwater.

During and after Vietnam, we decided that MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) would never happen so we turned our attention to nuclear energy and the safe-guards the industry told us about. Not to worry, Westinghouse said nuclear energy is “safe, clean and practical.”

Then Three-Mile-Island and the spin was on to assure us that it was a fluke and, yes, while it happened, we were really in no danger.

In India, a gas leak at Bhopal showed what could happen if toxic gas was released into the air. But would that kill all of us? Doubtful.

Chernobyl changed nuclear safety for much of a generation. But the nukers weren’t gone, they just moved to the back of the bus.

In the 90s, we learned about germ and bacterial warfare. This had the best potential for global eradication not only of humans but animals and plant life as well.

In the 2000s, it is climate change that’s going to do us in. Unless you believe the deniers.

But all of that may take a back seat to the legacy BP has given the United States and the World. Oil. The stuff of our life! The stuff responsible for our freedom, our way of life, our future. Well, some of our futures.
If a well goes bad on dry land, there are tried and true ways to correct the problem. When a well goes bad a mile under the sea, all bets are off.
There has been a lot of concern about the BP’s oil spill reaching land, moving up the East Coast and polluting the rich fish and lobster areas we so desperately need. And we need to refer to it as BP’s Oil Spill as much as we can.
The fixes and inept attempts at fixes uncaring BP offer haven’t worked. Now they’re talking about using those same nuclear weapons we so feared in the 50s and 60s to stop the flow of oil. Do we trade one catastrophe for a radioactive other? Will the shores of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida have that soft green glow for thousands of years?

There’s one question I’ve tried to get answered but calls to involved people have resulted in “I dunno” answers. That’s not to say an answer doesn’t exist, it’s just that I feel they won’t answer me. Maybe if someone prominent asks, we could find out.
Oil that comes from beneath the sea is usually under a lot of pressure. Hence the spewing even after the pipe broke. And it’s going to come out until we stop it or…until it runs out.

My question is this: Just how much of that environment threatening, life ending, investor enriching, pollutant is left that can come out if we can’t stop it?

The good news is that it WILL eventually slow and stop when it nearly empties and the tremendous pressure equalizes if we can’t stop it.

The bad news is there are many more of BP and other Big Oil Wells waiting for the next human carelessness or corporate greed.

From the mouth of the Teaparty...

Stephanopoulos: Should the Federal Government be able to set a minimum wage?

Paul: Well, it’s not a question of whether they can or cannot, I think that’s decided. I think the question you have to ask is whether or not, when you set the minimum wage, it may cause unemployment. You know, those who are at the lowest wages, if you raise the wage to a certain rate, if it’s above what the employer deems that their labor is worth, they won’t get hired. So the least-skilled people in our society have trouble getting jobs the higher you make the minimum wage. And it’s one of those things where you see on the surface, you say “OH, all these workers at McDonald’s got raised $0.50 an hour!” But what you don’t see is that there were 21 workers, and now there’s 15 workers if you raise the minimum wage too high. You know, if it were a good idea to raise the minimum wage, and it worked, why don’t we raise it to $20 an hour? Or $30 an hour? Obviously, there is a point where you get to that you cause unemployment, and I’m not really sure that the government is always the smartest in the world as far as economic decisions.

Just a thought about the oil spill

The wealthy pieces of shit who control the money in our country and fucked up our economy in epic proportions have been whining about putting wind farms off the Atlantic coast because it would ruin their ocean views. Clean energy is just not a pretty sight to the selfish 1%.

I wonder how they'll like it when the oil spill heads all the way up the east coast of the United States and they have to dodge smelly, dead oily sea life and get tar balls on their feet as they jog along their private ocean beaches where the land value plummeted? I wonder if the oil spill will then ride the gulf stream all the way to the UK?

It's the Hypocrisy, Stupid

Indiana Republican Rep. Mark Souder announced Tuesday he would resign from Congress, effective Friday, because he had an affair with a staffer. He also made an abstinence only video with the same staffer.


Seriously, I'm not one to judge what people do behind closed doors, but when you're an outspoken and I mean outspoken, proponent of traditional marriage (whatever that is), traditional family values (whatever that is) and committed to abstinence only sex education (whatever that is) and yet you have an affair with a staffer from your congressional office from where you pretend to be such a honorable family man... then you deserve to be targeted by the likes of me and everyone else who is watching those lying swine in DC who hold our very lives in their hands with their votes that make a mockery out of our democracy.

If you're a big fat hypocrite who tries to shove 'values' that you can't even adhere to down people's throats from the halls of congress, then you ought to resign from office for being a downright liar. Obviously, your religion didn't help you either.

Furthermore, don't blame Washington and politics for your downfall.

It's not for political gain, it's the hypocrisy. That's all.

I read the two articles below by Ron Holland back in January and March. Since I couldn't find any sites other than Pravda, Lew Rockwell, and many right sided blogs that were discussing this, I blew it off as the usual attacks on Obama. I paid no attention to the articles, figuring that Mr. Holland may have been grasping at anything to make us more frightened of Obama.
Hubby and I had just moved our retirement plans back into the stock market after years of sitting in the "safe and secure" money market accounts and I was still worried that we would lose everything. Since I couldn't find any other sites that were discussing this, I had to put it out of my head so I didn't drive myself crazy.

After reading the above headline at Bloomberg, now I'm getting nervous again.

I think I may take these two articles a bit more seriously now.

Two Parties, or Twenty?

I hear a lot lately about the failure of the two-party system in the United States, and I want to make a couple of points.

Remember Ross Perot, back in the late Eighties and early Nineties? Everyone thought he was the bee's knees and was a fantastic and fresh alternative to his Democratic and Republican rivals. But when push came to shove and when faced with the actual ballot, most of the voters went with either of the two main party candidates. Perot didn't get much of the popular vote.

We see the same pattern developing with the Tea Party supporters - while they're shouting about destroying "politics as usual," opinion polling has indicated that they're more like to vote the straight Republican Party ticket rather than look elsewhere.

I paid a great deal of attention to the British election last week, where no party won a clear majority in the House of Commons. The winner of the popular vote, the Conservatives, had to make concessions and strike a deal with the third-place Liberal Democrats in order to gain enough seats to form a stable government. Had incumbent Prime Minister Brown tried to form such a coalition, he would have had to forge a coalition with three or four minor parties that had won ten or fewer seats.

One of the main differences between the British party system and ours, I think, is that each of the major parties here have factions and wings within them that the British have set up as separate parties. Anti-immigrant? There's a faction for that in the Republican Party. Environmentalist? There's a seat for you in the Democratic Party, and so on.

An opinion I read once about the American political system was that it wasn't perfect, but it was ten times better than the next best system. Which should tell you a lot about the imperfectibility of human nature.

I decided to tune into WTIC - AM1080 (hard to find an FM station around here that plays decent music anymore) whilst driving around the greater Hartford area this morning. Rush Limpballs comes on at noon, so I thought I'd be safe. BIG MISTAKE! Looks like that big blabbermouth Jim Vicevich is back on the air. His blog is full of the "Thank God and the Heavens above that you're back" comments. WHAT is up with all these shock jocks getting so much airtime? Nevermind -- it's pretty obvious who owns the airwaves. This guy can't even form a complete sentence. It hurts so bad just to listen to him.

Now Jim, if we could only convince you to admit that your undergrad degree in economics does not put you on par with Paul Krugman. Deep Fried Mars Bar: Eit one a di an dei yong and hapee

"Eat one a day and die young and happy" (Scottish saying).

Chef Sunny Anderson claimed that a deep fried Mars bar was the "Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Food Network. She enjoyed the tasty treat at A Salt & Battery in Greenwich Village, NY. Guess where I'm going to grab a bite the next time I'm in the Village? (literally a 'bite'.)

Found a recipe for it below. It's illustrated wonderfully and yet it looks disgusting! Love the intro though.

"The company, Global Environmental Technology, has a product that is 100 percent organic and was invented in 1998 by its president, Carlos Forero. He won science competitions in Switzerland and Austria for the product, which encapsulates oil and cleans the material up.

"Not only does the product clean up the oil, it can also be recycled for use afterwards. In addition, if birds are contaminated, the product can used for them as well.

"You would think that with the disaster in the Gulf, and oil spilling out and heading to the beaches, the Coast Guard would be interested in the product. However, the company says all they are getting is red tape and getting nowhere.

"Liz Cabot, Forero's sister, says the Coast Guard said come back when they got EPA approval.

"When EPA reviewed the product and said it could be used, the company went back to the Coast Guard and Cabot says they were told they had to fill out paperwork. Cabot says they have been waiting and waiting for the paperwork to clear.

"And while the paperwork is being cleared, the oil continues to spread in the Gulf."

And since we're all going to end up paying for this BP fiasco with higher gas prices, higher food prices, higher transportation costs because shipping will have to be diverted to other ports, and since Obamuel has granted 27 permits for off-shore drilling SINCE the disaster, I would encourage everyone who lives in the affected areas and has to deal with dead fish and birds and other wildlife washed up on their shores to consider this: send the carcasses of the oil-covered animals to your local Congressman, U.S. Congressman, to BP, to Sarah Palin, to John McCain and any other fool who claimed off-shore drilling was safe. Tell them what they can do with them but be nice and thank them.
Oh, and don't forget Obamuel. Maybe fry up some catfish Cajun style with that really good million year-old sauce on it. Chicago Deep-Dish Pizza with Anchovies from the Gulf should go down real well, too!

Elena Kagan?

So Elena Kagan is Obama's pick for the Supreme Court.

Try to get facts... forget it. The corporate media and the wimmin hating conservatives who would block Jesus Christ himself from the position if Obama selected him are all over it with lies, more lies, myths, misconceptions... Oh Lordie.

Something tells me that she is not a liberal but will be portrayed as such by the corporate owned media. What do you think?

What world is Barry living in? It may be nice to believe "Why can't we all just get along?" and if he clicks his heels together three times those on the Right will somehow beat their weapons into plowshares and embrace equality, goodness and purity and the mythical dogma of truth, justice and the American Way and manna will fall from the skies and we can all go home again.

Meanwhile, back to reality.

Once again, Obamuel has shown the duplicity hidden from us during his campaign.
Add Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan to the list of choices Bush would have made. The facade the conservatives are showing is for the benefit of the media. They couldn't be much happier with the choice for moving the SCOTUS even farther to the right but they have to maintain the image they oppose Obamuel's choices. Exactly who has Obamuel appointed that the Right really objected to? Nobody! But they sure made it look as though they did.
Kagan has expressed a tendency to increase executive power. Bush didn't get EVERYTHING he wanted and now Obamuel will. She's another product of the Ivy League. That somehow is supposed to make the choice wiser? Bush was an Ivy Leaguer as is Obama. Larry Summers (remember him?) appointed Kagan Dean of the Law School. Slant right. If nothing else, that should send up a red flag.
We on the left didn't vote for centrism. But we've been ignored for Obamuel's pandering to the Right and the more than special interests.
Sotomayor was a poor choice for the Left and should never have been confirmed. Kagan carries that absurdity further. She has no experience as a justice. Barry might as well have nominated Howdy Doody.
There will come a time in the near future when this will become quite apparent. But it will be too late.
Many think this is the beginning of the 21st Century. It should be painfully obvious Bush and Obama along with the United Corporations of America are moving us backward to the beginnings of the 20th Century when the real destination is the late 1800s.
Already, moronic decisions have been made that give corporations as much or more power than they had during the Robber Baron Era. Kagan's views on the Unitary Position of the Presidency are directly in line with that of Dick Cheney, John Yoo and Corporate America and will add to the power of the President to govern at will. Is a Monarchy in the offing? We're nearly there already with executive signings. Can the repeal of alcohol, voting rights for women, abortion rights or even the child labor laws be in jeopardy? Can they be simply erased by a signing statement? Why not? The 4th Amendment is sterile because of executive signings. We can't afford to take that chance. Even some of the Obamuel apologists at kos are questioning that site's views and are being ostracized for them. Kos however, is just like the Republicans in that he can't admit he made a mistake. Or if he chooses not to admit it, he's no better than the rabble he tried to remove. But it gets him on TV.
While some may argue we still have a Democracy, Bush initiated, and Obamuel is making sure with their conservative choices, we have an "Adopted Monarchy" in the Supreme Court for years to come. We may even be privileged to see laws changed in the near future to allow the SCOTUS to select their own successors. And why not? The people no longer select the Representatives who will choose who runs the country. Representation by Americans is obsolete. Corporations now make the choices we used to make.
In 2012 we must make sure that NO Conservative is elected...or re-elected. Any and all Progressive choices for the presidency must be seriously evaluated and re-evaluated with severe consequences for elected officials who don't follow Progressive Views. Incumbency has no prerogative.
One thing is certain. In 2012, rather than lip service or street rhetoric, Progressives will need change that can be believed in. Pretentiousness, perfidious campaign promises and duplicity can not be tolerated. We will need new leadership in every position. Remove those who claim to be Progressive but don't support Progressive Ideas. We don't need recycled politicians from the 80s, 90s or even current times. We need a Progressive government that is answerable to the people not corporations.
This country can't move forward making decisions with a 20th Century mindset or with conservative policies, people, elected officials or interpreted laws that cause stagnation for people but reward corporations. The first obligation of the government has to be to its people. The people of this country don't owe a thing to the government; the people of this country provide everything for the government; the government owes the people first and foremost, not the corporations.
It's time to move forward, with or without Obamuel and the DINO Congress.

Oh the irony

It has been reported that BP executives were on board the Deepwater Horizon rig toasting the safety record at the moment of the explosion that killed 11 and fucked over the environment so that we can consume mass quantities of crap that doesn't make the world a better place unless you're a wealthy oil man. hmmm. I'm guessing that they really believed it was safe. The executives were injured but not killed in the blast. Here's the story and comments.

Remember when bush joked at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner in 2004 as he pretended to look for the WMD's around his podium? No one really thought it was funny... certainly not the families of those who were killed in Iraq... needlessly.

'Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere."

I wonder how many moms were grieving at that time?

Now obama may have topped that by quipping at last weeks White House Correspondents Association Dinner that he'd send unmanned drones after the Jonas Brothers if they hit on his daughters.

"Jonas Brothers are here, they're out there somewhere. Sasha and Malia are huge fans, but boys, don't get any ideas. Two words for you: predator drones. You will never see it coming. You think I'm joking?"
I wonder how many moms are grieving today? What about all the Pakistani moms who were blown up? Or their kids? Husbands? Families? Best friends? Hundreds of innocent civilians in Pakistan have been killed by unmanned drones. The drone pilots are adolescents stationed in California who get to go home to their families after work.

The UK Elections

Back on Thursday night, a major circus took place in the United Kingdom, as millions of people went to the polls. I took the advantage of the Internet and C-SPAN to watch the returns:



Actually it wasn't at all like that.

The outcome of the election, marred as it was by hundreds being turned away from polling stations when they closed at 10 PM, resulted in a clear win for the Conservative Party in the actual vote. However, the actual vote translates to seats in the 650-member House of Commons, and the winning majority was 326 seats.

The Conservatives could only muster 305 seats, and now the bidding war starts.

Prime Minister Brown, stubbornly clinging to his post, is reportedly trying to assemble a "coalition of losers" comprising his own Labour Party (which only got about 27% of the vote), the Liberal Democrats (the third-largest party with about 57 seats) and a collection of the smaller single-digit parties. By the English Constitution, as incumbent PM Brown gets first crack at trying to set up a workable majority government.

David Cameron, the Tory leader, made an open and public bid for Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats to ally with the Tories, which would create a rather interesting coalition. Either way, there would probably be another general election probably later this year.

The back room deals and talks that are going on remind me a lot of the BBC / Masterpiece Theater production House of Cards, featuring the late and great Ian Richardson as the deliciously evil Sir Francis Urquhart:

A Moment of Pure Revelation

There are times when even I experience a moment of pure revelation, a moment that opens my eyes and whispers in my ears that everything I knew about a certain subject was Wrong. They aren't very often, but all the more profound for that.

Here is one of those times.

The staff of the US Embassy in Tehran, Iran was taken hostage and held for 444 days, not being released until the inauguration of Ronald Reagan in January 1981. The continued hostage situation was a major contributing factor in the defeat of the incumbent Carter Administration. These facts are not in dispute.

Which makes this report (hat tip to Crooks and Liars) a revelatory moment. It was bruited about that the Reagan Campaign had met representatives of the Iranian Government before the election and arranged to delay or even scotch the Carter Administration's negotiations over the hostages. Now, twelve years later a Congressional investigation failed to find any evidence of this.

Enter the Russians.

Two days before the Congressional committee released its findings a confidential report was sent to Washington by People's Deputy N. Kuznetsov. In the report it was revealed that Reagan's people (including Robert Gates, the current Secretary of Defense) had met with Iranian representatives in Madrid and Paris. The basis of the agreement was that, in exchange for the hostages, the US would supply Iran with parts and expertise to maintain its air force as well as giving Iran weapons through intermediaries such as Israel (which handled things through third parties).

Which shows that Reagan achieved his electoral victory on the basis of a deception, if not outright treachery. It really shouldn't surprise me based on the later Iran-Contra Scandal, but there it is.

So I get to rewrite my internal memory files.

And it takes a moment of revelation to do that.

Obligatory Friday Sex Post

Despite its public persona as a state riven with Tea Partiers, meth labs, crotchety retirees and full-blown Know-Nothing antichoicers, Birthers, and kooks, Florida is actually quite a progressive state. We have a welcoming attitude toward all sorts of immigrants such as piranhas, Siamese walking catfish, Australian Melaleuca trees, kudzu, boa constrictors and pythons, for example.

We also have theme parks for people who want their exposure to culture emptied, steamed, whipped into a fondue, garnished with lark's vomit and spoon-fed to them.

Yes, Florida is a fairly nice place, and we place great stock in personal freedom. Which to some people, apparently, means the God-given right to have sex with animals.

What?

Yes, indeed. Appalled by stories about people doing Da Nasty with dogs and goats, state legislators have attempted in the past to put a law on the books making this kind of activity a crime. You see, bestiality is not a crime in Florida - it's usually covered under "cruelty to animals" (although no one bothers to ask the goat).

So a law was put forward by State Senator Nan Rich, a Democrat, and it enjoyed widespread backing from both sides of the aisle in both houses.

You can guess what happened next.

You're right - the law failed to pass.

Now, to be fair, this had nothing at all to do with some GOP legislator standing up to defend the time-honored rural rite of passage known as stump-training. It had to do with two factors: The 'ick' factor which prevented it from being spoken of openly (children are allowed to view sessions of the Legislature in order to see professional-grade lying and malfeasance in action), and the fact that the law got buried in an omnibus agriculture bill.

But wait a moment, you say. That bill could have passed, right? Yeah, it could have, except that it showed up in one version of the bill, not in another, and somewhere between the two the entire matter died as the Florida House let the clock run out without taking up the agriculture bill, which killed the law for another year.

Florida - where it's unlawful for gays to adopt children, but where a man can become a professional goat-shagger.

A distraction from reality, at least for a while...

Remember those pictures in the old comic books where they asked you to identify the presidents or baseball players or whatever (those of you too young, never mind and PoLT, put the glasses on!) and you could win a pony or X-Ray Specs or a whoopie cushion? They were usually hidden, these aren't.

"Happily married", "heterosexual" man and the co-founder of the anti-gay Family Research Council (with James Dobson) and author of the book, "Growing Up Straight: What Families should Know about Homosexuality," George Rekers, professor of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science at the University of South Carolina (of all things) hired a young man to help carry his luggage on a recent European trip.

Mr Rekers claims he had surgery and could not tote luggage (even though he was seen pushing luggage in Miami International Airport.)

The young man, 20, who so graciously helped Mr Rekers was hired from rentboy.com (not callboy.com as I previously reported. Thanks DBK) . The boy's profile at rentboy.com advertises his "smooth, sweet, tight ass" and "perfectly built 8 inch cock."
The escort told New Times that Rekers is "primarily a family man," despite their European jaunt.

"You don't understand how much this guy honestly cares about taking care of kids," he was quoted as saying.

Stupidity: A Rant

Of all the things that are guaranteed to stuff lint up my nose, nothing works faster than stupidity. I shall illustrate my point.

It seems that the police were within a downy pubic hair of losing Faisal Shahzad after he attempted to blow up a Nissan Pathfinder in the middle of Times Square a few days ago. Why? Seems that the FBI put him on the 'no-fly' list a few minutes after Shahzad boarded the plane that he hoped would take him to Dubai. Now, had the plane taken off, it could have been recalled, or the Air Force could have been sent to divert the plane and bring it back.

But the fact of the matter remains that someone could have moved faster - like putting the news out on the TSA's Twitter page, which could have saved a few minutes.

But they caught him, you say, and Shahzad was stupid in that the attempt was so amateurish. Right, says I, and it's a tribute to good old-fashioned police work. However, now we see the squealing of the Pussies and Whores - "We shouldn't have read him his Miranda rights!" "We should strip him of his citizenship!"

I heard this stupidity from Senators John McCain (R-Arizonastan) and Joe Lieberman (I-Couldcareless). Well, boys, hate to burst your bubbles, but Shahzad is an American Citizen, with all the rights that American Citizens have, and therefore (pace Jose Padilla) has all the rights enumerated under Federal law for American citizens. If you agree that a Muslim terrorist forfeits all legal protections by his actions, will you agree if the alleged terrorist is Christian? how about Jewish? Or does the stupidity and hypocrisy extend only to people with brown skins and funny names?

Moving along, NYC Mayor Blooomberg suggests that the government make it harder for suspected terrorists to buy guns. Makes sense, right? Wrong, according to Senators Susan Collins (R-Maplesyrupstan) and Lindsey Graham (R-Closet). Perish the thought that the government should make it, you know, difficult for anyone to exercise their Second Amendment right to have more guns than the 82nd Airborne.

Think about this a second - we want to strip all civil rights away from a suspected terrorist, but we don't want to restrict their opportunity to buy firearms. Stupid, right? And it's rather telling that McCain wants to strip Shahzad's rights away from him, while Glenn Fucking Beck is defending the decision to Mirandize the guy.

Moving along, the explosion and collapse of the Deepwater Horizon rig has given the lie to the assertion that drilling is actually quite trouble-free. This hasn't stopped the "Drill, Baby, Drill!" crowd from regrouping and doubling down on the idea (started by William (Wrong About EVERYTHING) Kristol) and now Sara Palin's gotten into the act. Her assertion? We should do more offshore drilling, but let American companies do it rather than unwashed foreigners like British Petroleum.

Never mind the fact that the company that was working on the rig at the time was headquartered in the United States, while BP leases the site and owns the actual rig.

Donations come from a mix of employees and the company's political action committees — $2.89 million flowed to campaigns from BP-related PACs and about $638,000 came from individuals.

"On top of that, the oil giant has spent millions each year on lobbying — including $15.9 million last year alone — as it has tried to influence energy policy.

Ken Cuccinelli- laughing stock of the week.

It seems that our "founding fathers" were a lot more liberal than the nutcases running the show today. Virginia's attorney general Ken Cuccinelli was so bothered that the goddess of virtue, Virtus, on the Virginia seal had her breast exposed (see left) that he ordered his staff to replace the Virginia seal on their lapel pins with one where Virtus' bosom is covered by an armored breastplate. (see right) Notice that the offending breast is illustrated by a letter "U" with a dot in it. How very shocking!

Look closely at the illustrations. (I think they open larger if you click on them)

In the original version, bare breasted Virtus seems to have really defeated the guy under her foot. He's on his back unconscious and his skirt is pulled way up his thigh. Tits have power!

In the new version, the man under Virtus' foot has a longer more modest skirt on, his genitals are facing down and he is twisting around to look up her dress! He appears to be digging it.

Roman mythology defines the unique Great Seal of Virginia. The obverse of the seal features the Roman goddess Virtus standing over a defeated opponent. Dumb things on the way to other dumber things???

Who is really running America? C’mon! You guys can tell us. It’s not like many of us don’t already know and the rest of the sheep could care less as long as American idol and Survivor Gulf Wetlands 2010 goes on. Why not come right out and have Barry say that he gets his orders directly from big business like Georgie Boy and Deadeye? Now the really great thing would be to have a national pool like the March Madness one to decide which corporation is actually the one making the decisions. I think we could limit the pool to 64 participants.

Where were the teabaggers when $20 to $50 per hour American Jobs were being outsourced to Japan, India, China and Mexico for pennies per hour? Now these hypocrites are all worried illegals will come in to claim the minimum wage jobs the legals so desperately don’t want. Those who are protesting the illegals won’t even change their own toilet paper let alone clean their own toilets (that’s for their wives to do – don’t want some Mexican doing their “wimmen’s” work, no siree!!)

Where are all these mostly Southern teabaggers complaining about cutting taxes when they work for a lot less than their Northern Union Counterparts? Yet they complain that unions are killing the country.

Don't they make all those screwed up Toyotas in the South? Maybe there weren't enough pictograms on the machines?

In the “Are you smarter than” category, I can’t wait for Napoleon McChrystal and Whipped Barry to be contestants about Afghanistan. Not a fifth grader but General, “Are you smarter than a 1980's Russian General?” “Barry, Are you smarter than Brezhnev?” Eerrnnnnt! Time’s up. Barry, how’s it feel to be dumber than Gorbachev? He recognized the problem and got them out of Afghanistan. Bonus question for Barry: You have some law learning. Are you aware of any leaders from the past who screwed up because they didn’t get proper advice? I’m sorry. That is rhetorical, isn’t it? Hint: You don't have to go back all that far. A couple of years will answer.

There’s a lot of unrest here in case some may only be watching network or cable news. So is it possible that idiots carrying guns to Barry’s speeches, teabaggers shouting bigoted comments, moronic half term, half assed ex governors from Alaska pushing the law as far as possible to incite hatred, Right-Wing Radio and Fox spewing hate and lies (for ratings, of course), is it possible this is being allowed to set up a massive crackdown on the people of this country? Because what’s coming will be a lot worse than Martial Law. We thought this with Bush but things weren’t overt enough. Now we have threats to business, Wall Street, Congress. Timing is nearly right for “new laws” or a “postponement of the Constitution” by executive signing and the SCOTUS. (Can Barry executive sign-away the Constitution? Let's ask John Yoo! He hates everything American!)

If a bank or corporation is too big to fail, rather than bail it out with our money, maybe it is time to nationalize that industry? That's the same as using tax payer money, isn't it? And we're all shareholders, right?

Do Native Americans need to show their birth certificates?

What if tens of thousands of Democrats suddenly changed their registration to...independent? Or (shudder) Republican? Would that send a message to the Democrats?

Who owns and runs the media? They aren’t ignoring the problems of this country for no reason. Someone is telling them what to say and show. Who?

Why do teabaggers believe corporations rather than the government in what's said (in the news) when for years all we’ve ever heard is how business is trying to screw us with their inferior products, bad service, high prices and false advertising?

Why must we accept that the bible is fact but evolution is a theory? Why are atheists expected to prove there’s no god when Xtians can’t prove there IS one?

Why do (many) white people think they are superior to those of other skin tones? And wasn’t Jesus non-white?

These and many other questions will probably be ignored by 99% of the American Public…until it’s too late.

Update:
It seems that Whirlpool is closing its Evansville, Ind. plant and moving to Mexico so it can make refrigerators cheaper (but still charge the same price in the U.S.), costing 1100 American Jobs. Oh, and it took 19 million of tax payer funds to help it make more money. Story here.
I imagine the teabaggers will hold a riot protesting this move any second now...being they are such patriotic Americans. They certainly won't act like hypocrites, will they?
