Our government as a literary device

The days are getting shorter and colder. Leaves fall off the trees and blow around in the much colder winds from the north. Soon there will be nary a sign of life in the garden that gave me such joy and hope during the warm growing season. Throwing mulch over the tender and much beloved perennials that have returned to the soil, I decide to stay indoors for the duration of the long sleep and keep warm by artificial means until the sun returns once again to my side of the hemisphere.

Yesterday, Congressional Democrats retreated into the cold dark shadows just as Republicans dared them to debate the impeachment of the very embodiment of evil. link

Foreshadowing: Device a writer uses to hint at a future course of action.

You guys could do a much better job of using this literary device.
