Actually the Brits accomplished what they were supposed to do in Basra- train the Iraq's to take over.
Something did strike me in the article though. Bush's attempt at starting WWIII was so pathetic. Not only were our troops ill equipped from the get go, I wouldn't call this much of an "all for one and one for all" coalition. Check out these current coalition forces: S. Korea (2,300 troops), Poland (900), Georgia (800), Romania (600) and Denmark (460). Britain currently has 7,100 and Australia has 550. The Italians and Slovaks have left, and the Danes and the South Koreans want to start withdrawing.
This just in from ABC News.
Dick had something to say about Britain's withdrawal while in Tokyo.
"Well, I look at it and see it is actually an affirmation that there are parts of Iraq where things are going pretty well," Cheney told ABC News' Jonathan Karl.
"I want you to know that the American people will not support a policy of retreat," Cheney told the soldiers.and this utter crap:
"I think if we were to do what Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Murtha are suggesting, all we will do is validate the al Qaeda strategy," Cheney told ABC News. When will he commit accidental suicide on a hunting trip?
"The al Qaeda strategy is to break the will of the American people, knowing they can't win in a stand-up fight, try to convince us to throw in the towel and come home and then they win because we quit," he said.
"I think that is exactly the wrong course to go on," Cheney said. "I think that is the course of action that Speaker Pelosi and Jack Murtha support. I think it would be a mistake for the country."
