so why can't the rest of the politico-xtians figure this out?
Jay Bakker (son of Jimmy and Tammy Faye) actually seems to have read the bible and LISTENED to the teachings of Jesus. (will wonders never cease) But he does have a very good point. We've all been concerned that the undo influence of religion will destroy the government. (and rightfully so) However he is warning that blending religion and politics will destroy religion and possibly outlaw it.
There will be a documentary on the Sundance Channel and here are some of the questions they ask:
What the hell happened? Where did we go wrong? How was Christianity co-opted by a political party? Why are Christians supporting laws that force others to live by their standards? The answers to these questions are integral to the survival of Christianity.
While the current state of Christianity might seem normal and business-as-usual to some, most see through the judgment and hypocrisy that has permeated the church for so long. People witness this and say to themselves, "Why would I want to be a part of that?" They are turned off by Christians and eventually, to Christianity altogether.
I know that personally I am in that last category, I've gone from a peaceful agnostic to a 'get out of my face you woo-woo yutz' aetheist in a matter of a year and a half. And the main reason is watching what the 'religious right' considers the word of God to be and cringing at their attacks and sound bites. And please no "they aren't TRUE Christians" arguement. If they believe in the divinity of Christ, they are by definition, Christian.
Now, how about we get some more reasonable people to start listening to these two kids and maybe I'll learn some respect for religion again.
