What's the deal? All of a sudden there are nothing but sex scandals involving Republicans exploding around us like veritable waterspouts. Yeah, yeah, we've always known that these sanctimonious, holier-than-thou asshats are basically charlatans who use the faith of their followers callously and cynically (see, e.g., Kuo, David). But this past couple of weeks has just been too much. First there's the whole Foley (R-FL) thing, then the Don Sherwood (R-PA) ad campaign ("Sure, I cheated on my wife, but I didn't beat my mistress'), and now . . .
Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) is under investigation for that little camping trip he took with Congressional pages.
Country music singer Sara Evans has filed for divorce from her husband because he cheated on her, was verbally abusive, drank excessively and watched porn. Apparently, he had a lot of pictures of his little soldier as well. Did I mention he was a Republican candidate for Congress in 2002?
