There are millions of Americans out there afraid to think for themselves. You and I know them. You can't escape them- they're afraid of everything and need to be told what to do and what to think. These are Coulter's audience because she tells them what they need to hear and need to read in order to direct their anxiety at a straw man rather than at the real villains.
Case in point, I read a couple of letters to the editor at USA Today here. Two of them perfectly depict the mindset of those who dare not think. One writer declared:
As they clawed their way to center stage to blame America for 9/11, the four widows who became known as the "Jersey Girls" marketed their grief to the largest TV audiences, served as mouthpieces for John Kerry and others, and used the money donated by a nation to leave their kids home to heal themselves as they hit campaign trails and engaged in disgraceful public conduct at the most important investigative commission hearing of our time.
We know perfectly well that whenever someone comes out in opposition to the government, that it was mostly likely their idea, because the Democrats couldn't organize a movement to save their lives. These gals didn't work for the Democrats and most Democrats just kept silent while the 9/11 Commission made a mockery of our country. I find it amusing when the Coulters and O'Liellys assume that the left has talking points memos to read every morning.
Coulter was complaining to Jay Leno the other night, that "the Democrats" "put out" all these victim type, regular people to speak out against the government because they know that no one can talk back to them. Hilarious. Like the Democrats could ever come up with a Rovian plan like that.
Another writer said of the Jersey Girls, "they are the ones who made a decision to move to the political arena and therefore must endure all that comes with it."
And what was 9/11 if not political? I find it disturbing that more victim's families aren't speaking out especially when the RNC came to NYC to exploit the tragedy and the victims for their own political gain. Everything about 9/11 was for political gain and when a few women come out and call them on it, they are accused of doing exactly what the accusers are doing.
Coulter is thrilled with the publicity she's gotten lately as her book is #1 on the NY Times Best Seller List. She's acting like she's upset by the little people trying to make money off her hateful book. She's not stupid. She knows what she's saying and you know darn well, she's laughing her ass off behind the scenes.
Worthless little cable TV shows with teeny-tiny audiences, ridiculous legislators and tabloid newspapers are all trying to make a name for themselves off the profundity of "Godless."
Her big complaint and she mentioned it on Jay Leno was that liberals are not upset that she's accusing them of being GODLESS. He forgot to tell her that when your god is evil, vindictive, jealous, money hungry, deceitful and politically motivated, what do you expect? That liberals would worship the same god? I could make the same case for Coultergeists saying they are GODLESS too.
Coulter, in her latest column, decided to fall back on the usual Hillary and Bill bashing making wild accusations and then accuses Rahm Emanuel (a Democrat with balls who called her on her bullshit) of being a ballerina, because that's what some bullyish type men do when they want to put down another man, accuse him of being a fairy. (Ann is not a woman, by the way.) She calls the Democrats, the party of rapists. Anyone who can read knows that the GOP has the highest number of sex offenders and the so called, "Godly" people do too.
This is my favorite part of her column and this is the clincher. It's proof that Coulter is pandering to the mindless base that Pat Robertson and his ilk have set their sites on:
Back when there were only three TV stations and no Internet, talk radio or Fox News, it used to be so easy for the MSM to destroy reputations -- Joe McCarthy, Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Robert Bork, Dan Quayle, Oliver North, Clarence Thomas, Pat Buchanan, Newt Gingrich, Paula Jones and Linda Tripp, to name a few of the MSM's prey.
Whew. I have to stop laughing before I can type anymore... Linda Tripp? She forgot Katherine Harris.
... ok. back from the floor. Yes that nasty MSM smeared the criminals and fascists she pretends to idolize in order to sell books. But the MSM also smears good guys. (I know that you know that, Ann.) The MSM doesn't smear Coulter as much as she deserves and it's probably a sexist thing: they aren't sure if they should treat her like a woman because they aren't sure what she is. Silly MSM, you don't have to worry about any women rising up to defend Coulter if you attack her. Women know their own.
Sure the non-thinkers are an easy market. The so called "religious right" is making out tremendously as well as the winger pundits who write books intended to scare them. Normally, I wouldn't care about it because "there's a sucker born every minute" as PT Barnum exclaimed. But those who prey on willfully ignorant are encouraging them vote against their interests and the interest of the country as a whole, providing an easy path for the rise of fascism. I will just have to keep beating the dead horse.
