Proof of "Agents Provocateurs"?

BAGHDAD, Sept. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- "Iraqi police detained two British soldiers in civilian clothes in the southern city Basra for firing on a police station on Monday, police said.

"Two persons wearing Arab uniforms opened fire at a police station in Basra. A police patrol followed the attackers and captured them to discover they were two British soldiers (emph. PoLT)," an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

"The two soldiers were using a civilian car packed with explosives, the source said.

"He added that the two were being interrogated in the police headquarters of Basra.

"The British forces informed the Iraqi authorities that the two soldiers were performing an official duty, the source said. "British military authorities said they could not confirm the incident but investigations were underway".

And this from the BBC:
"Two British soldiers whose imprisonment prompted UK troops to storm a Basra police station were later rescued from militia, the Ministry of Defence says. Brigadier John Lorimer said it was of "deep concern" the men detained by police ended up held by Shia militia. Basra governor Mohammed al-Waili said the men - possibly working undercover - were arrested for allegedly shooting dead a policeman and wounding another".

And now this from Rigorous Intuition.
"Damn the blind eyes of anyone who still can't see after Basra.
"Here are the two (photo at link) while in Iraqi police custody. Reuters appended a note to each photo over the wire: "ATTENTION EDITORS - THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT REQUESTS THAT THE IDENTIFICATION OF THIS MAN IS NOT REVEALED, EITHER VIA PIXELLATION OF THEIR FACES OR BY NOT PUBLISHINGTHE PHOTOS." (emph. original)

"These hard men, likely SAS ops, must have had some stories to tell, otherwise tanks would not have negotiated their way through the prison walls of Britain's reputed hosts so soon after their capture.

"It doesn't make sense? Only if you haven't been paying attention. This is the subtext of the Iraq tragedy: blow up the Hajis and play the Sunnis on the Shias; create the chaos (emph. PoLT) that introduces the conditions necessary for the long-game, and the long-held aspirations of the neoconservatives to divide Iraq into ethnographic bantustans."
That last sentence sums the whole shitty mess up in a fucking nutshell. Read it all at the link above and check the comments. And a couple final questions: Do the Brits get ideas like this from us, or do we get ideas like this from them? Where the hell are those links to the London subway bombings? Nah, the Brits wouldn't kill their own citizens, would they? Unless maybe they got the idea from somebody else...

The day that Iraqi anger exploded in the face of the British occupiers
The Independent:

"The dramatic events began to unfold just before dawn yesterday, when two British nationals were detained by Iraqi authorities. It emerged later that they were British soldiers. Dressed in plain clothes - according to some they were wearing traditional Arab dress - the two men had been driving in an unmarked car when they arrived at a checkpoint in the city.

"In the confrontation that followed, shots were fired, and two Iraqi policemen were shot, one of whom later died. The Iraqi authorities blamed the men, reported to be undercover commandos, and arrested them". More at link.
