The Week In God (vs. Science)

It's quite clear now that Iraq had been a secular nation for a good reason: Who can ever decide which brand of Islam is the right one? It looks like the best bombers will win that debate. Who won the war between Ireland and Northern Ireland anyway? Which Christians will claim America as their own?

Oh yeah? You're Catholic? You're not Christian.
Catholics make up the largest mainstream religious denomination in the country. Protestants collectively outnumber Catholics... but then again, there wouldn't be so many different protestant religions if they agreed on what to believe in. Then you have those make believe evangelist bible churches where the "believers" never read a whole paragraph of the bible at one time to see if the sentence they used to hate someone was taken out of context. Their leaders are counting on that hatred and fear.

Today, the majority of Americans declare that this is indeed a Christian country. Sure it's a slap on the face to those of other faiths... but watch the bitch slapping between Christians begin. The war between the lovers vs the haters:

The sinners of the United Church of Christ were warned by christianistas that they are way off track (link):
Members of St. John's Reformed United Church of Christ awoke Saturday morning to discover their church severely damaged by smoke and anti-gay graffiti painted on the side of the building...

The vandalism contained anti-gay messages and a declaration that United Church of Christ members were sinners. The graffiti's message appeared to be a reference to the national church's decision last week to endorse gay and lesbian marriages, Shultz said.
There is a growing controversy in the Air Force as evangelical preachers are zealously spreading their "christian" beliefs among the military. It's interesting to note from this NY Times article that evangelists bring in the most recruits. But tensions are rising in the military. Whose christian religion is the right one? Even our military is at odds.

Earlier this week, I posted: Catholics are not Christian, you silly goose (link)
A Christian adoption agency that receives money from “Choose Life” license plate fees said it does not place children with Roman Catholic couples because their religion conflicts with the agency’s “Statement of Faith.”

According to the statement of faith, this group asserts that the scriptures are the final authority. The Catholic Church officially includes human reason into their theology. This is officially at odds with evangelists. How will the RCC appease the fundies? Just ask Cardinal Christoph Schönborn...

Cardinal Christoph Schönborn of Vienna wrote an op ed piece in the Times (article posted here) recently causing controversy over the issue of evolution, which most Americans don't really understand by the way, unless you went to Catholic school. Heaven forbid that uneducated, ill informed christian zealots accuse Pope Benedict of being a "satisfied evolutionist". Schönborn is trying to come up with a way to include human reason AND God's intervention in the evolution process. It seems more like the RCC is going to cow tow to the christo-fascists. Agitprop posts more about this here.

NewScientist (reg required) had a great article about creationists which I posted here. Become an instant expert in evolution here.

Breaking News: Maybe quantum physicists have discovered a way to explain the will of god in creation. If you're into quantum mechanics and/or theology, the entanglement theory may just answer what this passage in John1:1 is all about: In the beginning was the word and the word was with god and the word was (a) god. The article is here but if you want to read the whole thing. Write to me at and I'll send it to you.
