Oil Affair Update

The Republican's love affair with big oil led Bill Frist to think with his pump instead of his brains... believing that American consumers would be satisfied with a measley $100 out of court settlement for being repeatedly gas raped.

We the American people, are not cheap dates. We expect a nice dinner and cocktails before we bend over and ask for more, thank you very much, Mr. Frist.

This message to the powers that be was received loud and clear today as Mr Frist's insult to American taxpayers was poo-pooed by many in his party. In fact, they are now paying lip service to a novel idea- investigating why the gas prices are escalating.

HFS UPDATE: From Think Progress

National Journal reports that after meeting with ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson today, House Speaker Hastert “said Congress should concentrate on opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge” to drilling rather than the proposed $100 rebate to lower gas prices.

If drilling is allowed, the Department of Energy has said that “even twenty years down the road, when Arctic Refuge oil is at or near peak production, gas prices would be affected by about a penny per gallon.”
