Some things never change...

GRAFT?!?!? CORRUPTION?!?!? IN *OUR* GOVERNMENT?!?!?!

*GASP!*

CorpWatch: NO-BID Contracts Win Katrina Work...

L.A. Times: FEMA Re-Opening Its No-Bid Contracts...

HALLIBURTON WATCH: Halliburton Gets Katrina Contracts, Hires Former FEMA DIRECTOR...

Then, THIS:

But then, I found THIS:

"In the immediate response phase for Hurricane Katrina, our priority was to get relief quickly to those in need," Paulison said in a statement.
"The oversight safeguards are in place for those emergency contracts so critically needed when the disaster struck and we will now use competitive strategies everywhere possible -- placing priority on the use of local and small disadvantaged businesses -- as we move into the long-term recovery phase."

Now, I don't know f the Shaw Group has taken over the other 49 states the way that they've pretty much consumed the Louisiana construction business in one hearty gulp, but if so, I wanna know whose pocket that they're really in... But it's nice to see SOMETHING resembling "progress" in FEMA's Big Boys First Rebuilding Plan... Too bad that they weren't worried about hiring LOCALS in the FIRST FUCKING PLACE...

Okay, so it's not the most coherent conspiracy theory in the world, but it makes a nice timeline of "Whatever Happened To The 9th Ward?" that will be in the Trivial Pursuit 2010 Edition. Keep your eyes on the contractors, kids, 'cause that's where the sneaky shit is always going on... and you thought that it was just the TEAMSTERS who were shady...

Also, keep an eye out for "Boh Bros. Construction." That name may not mean anything to you now, but they're the ONE local company who's cleaning up the MOST reconstruction contracts (as they do every time a pothole goes unfixed in Orleans & Jefferson parishes), and dollars to doughnuts, somebody's going to get greedy...
