Reader Poll

What do you think Scooter Libby meant when he wrote to Judith Miller:

"You went into jail in the summer. It is fall now … Out West, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning. They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them. Come back to work—and life."

(Let it be known that aspens do not all turn at the same time just because their roots connect them. Environmental factors such as sunlight, precipitation and temperature control just when the leaves turn on particular trees despite their connected roots. Aspens do grow their leaves in the spring at the same time because of their root connectiveness, however.)
